 Dolly’s Story

2 February 2008

“As humans we begin to ‘communicate’ at the time of our birth, and as many mothers would testify often prior to birth with kicks and elbows.  Communication is the basic building block of our connectedness – what makes our lives worth living.

Dolly lost that ability to connect, when she lost her ability to communicate verbally.  Her world was shrinking and her physical stature along with it.

I am amazed in Dolly’s growth from week to week when we share lunch every Monday. Dolly was introduced to and now uses a ‘Point to Communicate’ booklet.  She is connected once again to family, friends, and community.  Just last week we had a lively political debate regarding November’s election.  Dolly’s an active member and vice president of Interfaith Caregivers.  Her voice is heard in this forum, contributing to decisions that affect the lives of other area seniors.

As we conclude our weekly lunch dates, I bask in Dolly’s glow and marvel at how tall she has grown.

Thank you to all those who helped make ‘Point to Communicate’ booklets a real tool in today’s world.”
Sandy. C Singer, Director, Interfaith Caregivers

“I wish this tool had been available to my family when my father-in-law lost his ability to speak, but not to ¨think,” when he had a virulent brain cancer.  He lived for two years past onset; this would have improved his quality of life considerably.  It would have improved our ability to communicate with him and our quality of life as well.”
Barbara Gassner, Counselor

“I think this product has been needed for some time, and I am very glad to see this idea promoted and available.”
John Porter, Disabled

“An outstandingly versatile tool that covers a very broad array of needful and necessary communications – a big boost to one’s health and also dignity.”
Connie Olivet, Family Member

“I am very impressed with your Point to Communicate booklet.  It is exactly what I have often needed and never been able to find.  My clients and their families, caretakers and medical personnel need it as soon as possible.  It is a necessary resource that I am sure they will be pleased to purchase.”
Beth Dennison, Trauma Educator

“As an R.N. for 50 years, having worked with stroke and asphasic patients, I welcome this wonderful and useful tool.  This booklet will be of great benefit to all who are involved with health care, nurses, and all care providers.  It will also help to promote dignity and integrity for the afflicted person.  I highly recommend this booklet to medical facilities, nursing homes, and all that have a need for its use.”
